This part of the
Racing 2 Learn program is working with kids who are driving now or want to drive racecars or karts. The team seeks kids with good grades, strong family ties and involvement, and who are hands on with their car and race team. The team helps them with marketing support, which increases exposure for the program and the Racing 2 Learn marketing partners, but also provides advice, information, and general racing assistance.
One of the student racers is Justin Barber, a high school junior, who races in the Modified-Sportsman class at
Albany-Saratoga Speedway and is planning to go to college for engine building and a career in the racing industry. Justin’s grandparents and parents are heavily involved in racing and give him much support.
Matty Gamache is a 2nd grade go-kart racer who competes at
Dodge City Speedway in Howes Cave, NY and other tracks in the region. He not only won the track championship in his class in 2007, he also earned extra “marketing” money due to his good grades. Matty and his younger brother Zack are both racing this year, with their parents close by their side.
New for the 2008 race season is Sheldon Martin. Sheldon is a 10th grade student who is competing as a rookie in the Pro Stock division at
Fonda Speedway, after a highly successful go-kart career. He will be racing alongside his Father, and his Mother and Sister are at the track every weekend with them.
